You all are well aware with what went down at the AEW media scrum post all out. The aftermath of that has left AEW roster in shambles. Tony Khan has been forced to suspend The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Brandon Cutler, Christopher Daniels, Ace Steel and CM Punk has been sent on a sabbatical. Which brings us to the question. Was it just regular bad blood between the alpha males of AEW or was it a gimmick that went too far?
Pipe bombs
Those who have been following CM Punk’s career are well aware with this term. Punk is a master of powerbombs. He can have the whole world in the palm of his one hand if he has a mic in the other. His pipe bombs have always riled up people and turned the wrestling world upside down. So what if what happened at the media scrum was not just Punk losing his cool but a pipe bomb that landed wrongly?
Given Punk’s tendency of riling up his opponents and the fact that he is a much better heel than a face, his comments at media scrum appear more like an unplanned pipe bomb. One that the EVP’s of AEW were not aware of. His one statement where he buried young talent as kids might be his way of igniting the fire under likes of Daniel Garcia, Ricky Starks and Darby Allin.
It is possible that Punk’s intentions were to create controversy and get more media attention to AEW and its product. Afterall, in the golden words of Eric Bischoff ‘controversy creates cash’. Maybe Punk was doing what as per him was best for business only for Bucks and Omega to ruin it unknowingly. There is a high chance that Punk’s unscripted Pipe Bomb failed because it was unscripted unlike the one he delivered in WWE. But then, what good is a pipe bomb if it is not dropped out of blue.
Whatever may his intentions be, the pipe bomb has blown AEW to smithereens and it is highly unlikely that we are going to see the second city saviour back in AEW any soon unless…
It is a work
Yes, it might be a work given the long term storytelling penchant of Tony Khan. The MJF pipe bomb is an example. We all thought it was a work but then MJF was not there for months. We all dropped any hope of seeing him in ring only for him to appear as Joker at All Out.
What if Punk was legitimately injured and Khan wanted to send him on a hiatus. In comes EVPs who decide to script a fight angle which will garner attention of media and allow Young Bucks and Kenny Omega to rest too. We all know that Omega was not 100% when he returned from injury.
Now we have a hot story. AEW is trending worldwide. Everyone is talking more about what happened at AEW rather than return of Braun Strowman. Punk and Omega are at home cooling heels. Imagine the boos Punk will garner when he returns. Imagine the cheers Omega will get when he comes back. Imagine the rafters shaking as we get “The best in the world” vs “The best bout machine”.
If one thing we all know about the world of professional wrestling is that there are no closed doors. Never permanent and that anything can happen.
